Church Giving

St Mary’s Income

The majority of the income received by St Mary’s is money donated by our parishioners, worshippers and visitors.

We receive some income from wedding and funeral fees and we can sometimes apply for grants for specific projects. But it is the faithful giving of the community which enables our ministry within our community.

From our income, we must cover all our many running costs. We also pay a significant sum to the Diocese to contribute towards diocesan wide costs. This sum is weighted so that we pay extra to support poorer, smaller parishes in deprived parts of the diocese. This is part of our faithfulness and care for all.

Supporting St. Marys

If you would like to support St Mary’s in our ministry, in serving our community and in keeping our church building in a good condition, here are some ways to do that:

  • You can join our planned giving programme. To do so, you will set up a regular standing order to make a regular donation direct into St Mary’s bank account. A standing order form can be found by clicking the button below. This can either be printed off, completed and sent direct to your bank, or you can use the details on the form to set up the standing order via online banking.
  • You can make a single donation to St Mary’s. Either by sending a cheque, payable to PCC St Mary’s Without-the-Walls Chester, to our Parish Office at Overleigh Road, Handbridge, Chester CH4 7HL.
  • Or by taking the bank account details from the standing order form in the link above and making an online payment direct into the bank account. If you choose this method, it is helpful if you can put ‘Single Donation’ in the reference.
  • However you give, if you are a tax payer and can complete a Gift Aid Declaraion (see link below) we can claim basic rate tax paid which at the present 20% rate of tax increases the value of your gift by 25%.
  • You can remember us in your will and make a bequest to St Mary’s. Details of how to do this can be found further down this page.

You can contact our Treasurer by using the form below if you have questions about any of the above.

St Mary Without-the-Walls:Parish Legacy Policy

Here at St Mary Without-the-Walls we welcome all gifts in Wills, however large or small, and we promise to use your gift to make a difference in our parish.

Our Parochial Church Council legacy policy is to use gifts to help fund significant development or maintenance projects, whether buildings, equipment or staff.

Since needs change over the years, we encourage you to leave a gift in your Will for the general purposes of the parish rather than for a restricted purpose. Where appropriate, we will discuss possible uses of your gift with your executors when the time comes, bearing in mind your known areas of interest in the church (e.g. music, buildings, children and youth, overseas mission or aid) and the church’s priorities at the time.

You can be confident that your gift will be used to make a real difference to our future mission and ministry.

We will seek to acknowledge your gift in whatever way you and/or your executors feel most appropriate. Equally, we can make sure your gift remains anonymous if you prefer.

If you would like to talk to someone in confidence about the sorts of purposes your gift might fund, and how (if) you would like your gift to be acknowledged, contact either:

The Rector, on 01244 671202

or

The Parish Giving Recorder, on 01244 629111

If you would like to make a gift to our church in memoriam, please come and discuss this with us too. It can be a wonderful and appropriate way to remember a loved one.

If you would like guidance on the wording to use to make a gift to St Mary’s, you might like to look at www.churchlegacy.org.uk/writing-your-will/wording-for-your-will

Your gift will be to ‘the Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Mary-on-the-Hill, known as St Mary Without-the-Walls PCC, Chester. Registered charity number 1132533.
